1. A process of reacting nanoscale ce-MoS2 nanosheets anchored on oxide supports with lead in solution at room temperature whereby the reaction is rapid and spontaneous resulting in the formation of PbMoO4-xSx in the process of scavenging Pb2+ and Pb4+ in solution.
2. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the MoS2 nanosheets is in the size up to 1.micro.m in length with 1-3 layers thickness.
3. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein Pb is in Pb2+ and Pb4+ state.
4. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein anions including CH3CO2-, Cl-, NO32-, SO42-, O2- are used as counter ions for Pb2+ and Pb4+.
5. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the MoS2 nanosheets are supported on oxide and polymeric substrates including SiO2, Al2O3, polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride.
6. The process as claimed in claim 5, wherein the supported MoS2 nanosheets is used as a filter in a filtering device in a variety of formats including candle, molded porous block, filter bed, column, packets and bags to remove Pb species.
7. The process as claimed in claim 1 wherein the solution may be aqueous or non aqueous.
8. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lead species is in air, in suspended form.
9. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the ce-MoS2 nanosheets used for removal of heavy metals including but not limited to lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury and chromium.
10. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein ce-MoS2 is one of the active species involved.
