In this study, novel BiO2 (x)-(BiO)(2)CO3 photocatalysts with Z -scheme structure were successfully prepared by a hydrothermal method. XRD patterns clearly indicated the coexistence of both BiO2 x and (BiO)(2)CO3 in the composites. The formation of heterojunction was observed by TEM. The BiO2 x-(BiO)(2)CO3 possessed an excellent phenol degrading rate of 95% within 60 min under visible light irradiation. Radical trapping experiments indicated that both h(+), HO center dot and O-2(center dot) are the main active species responsible for the degradations. The fantastic Z-scheme structure of the BiO2 (x)-(BiO)(2)CO3 heterogeneous not only extended photo-responsive range but also enhanced electron-hole separation capacity. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V.
